Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay learned her ex Bryan Abasolo filed for divorce via text message


High school Student Rachel Lindsay learned “via text message” that her ex Bryan Abasolo had filed for divorce, court documents revealed.

In the June 26 filing obtained by PeopleLindsay, who starred as the Bachelorette during season 13 of the franchise, claimed Abasolo informed her via text message that he had filed for divorce on January 2.

The 39-year-old television personality alleged in the filing that she and Abasolo, 44, “had a conversation in [her] kitchen during which he did not mention that he had filed for divorce.” About 30 minutes after leaving the house, according to Lindsay, he sent her a text message informing her that he had filed for divorce that same day.

He reportedly included a screenshot of his text message in the filing, which said Abasolo had texted him at 11:43 a.m. on January 2. “Hey…I just wanted to let you know that I officially filed,” he texted her, according to People. “Hope for?” She answered. Lindsay also stopped sharing her location with Abasolo that same night, according to the screenshot.

Although Lindsay – who met and became engaged to Abasolo during his season of High school In 2017, when she learned that she and the chiropractor “were separating and heading toward divorce,” she said she was “shocked” when she was informed via text message that he had officially filed.

Lindsay explained that their “previous conversations” had been “friendly” and that they had decided to divorce in a way that “would not attract media attention.” However, Lindsay alleged that she “tried to talk to Bryan about divorce to resolve this matter quickly and amicably, but he was not interested.”

“He informed me in very clear terms that everything must go through lawyers. “You have made no effort, reasonable or not, to resolve this matter with me,” the document reads.

In January, it was reported that Abasolo had filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court. He cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation and set December 31 as the separation date.

“After more than four years of marriage, Rachel and I have made the difficult decision to separate and start over,” Abasolo said in a statement posted to her since-deleted Instagram. “Sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you have to let go.”

In his statement, he asked for respect for his family and friends as they take their next steps.

While Lindsay did not make her own statement on social media about the split, she did later open up about the divorce on her podcast, Higher Education with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsaydescribing the divorce as a “difficult time.”

“I didn't think I'd be excited,” she said during the Jan. 5 episode. “First of all, I just want to thank the people who reached out. I'm still trying to respond to people. “You never know how big your circle is until you see all the people who reach out to you and love you.”

“It's obviously a difficult time, if you've read the headlines you're probably wondering why I would work. But to be honest with you, I need to distract myself from myself, and the best way to do that is to do something I love, and I love Greater learning,” She continued.

Although the former Bachelorette didn't go into details, she promised that she will “eventually” share it with her fans, but “now is not the time.” [I’m] “I just try to take it day by day.”

His recent court filing comes after Abasolo requested spousal support and more than $75,000 in legal fees. Elsewhere in the June 26 document, she stated, “Her requests for spousal support and $75,000 in professional fees are not supported by competent evidence and far exceed her actual marital lifestyle and need for it.”

The former couple married in August 2019 after meeting on their season of High school Two years ago. They have no children together.

Lindsay initially competed on season 21 of The Bachelor starring Nick Viall. She later gained recognition after being announced as the first black Bachelorette in 2017, which also marked the franchise’s first black lead across its multiple series.
