Australian YouTuber PrettyPastelPlease has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 30, according to a post shared on her Instagram account.

The social media star, whose real name is Alex, has built a successful online following with her travel clips, fashion hauls and product reviews.

A post shared on her Instagram account on Friday (July 5) said her death was “sudden, unexpected and devastating to everyone who knew her.”

“Today we bring you a devastating announcement,” the post begins. “It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Alex, known to many as Pretty Pastel Please, has passed away.

“This is a shock to all of us, and his family and friends have asked for privacy as they grieve. We ask that you respect their wishes; they appreciate all of your support, but need time to heal in private.

“A tribute will be posted on YouTube and here on Instagram in due course. Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.”

The YouTuber had over 690,000 subscribers on the platform and enjoyed huge success with her videos, which ranged from vlogs to 50-minute product reviews.

A video in which the YouTuber travels to Japan and eats exclusively 7-Eleven food for a week has had more than four million views. In another video, which has received more than two million views, her pet parrot, Archie, speaks into a microphone for five minutes straight.

On YouTube, her profile is described as: “Fashion hauls, product reviews, thrift stores, travel content, and a talking parrot.”

The last video posted before her death, shared on May 31, was a fashion haul video that received more than 45,000 views.

Alex had been the target of hate online and had previously spoken out about how he managed to receive unwanted comments on social media and urged people to be kinder.

“I admit it now, I don’t handle criticism well,” she wrote in December 2022. “I’m not built to handle reading negative things about myself. I can look at a thousand positive comments and forget them all the moment someone says they don’t like me.”

On social media, fans have paid tribute to the YouTuber and thanked her for providing them with hours of uplifting content.

“I'm truly heartbroken by this news. I saw Alex for so many years that she started to feel like a friend. I'm praying for her family and friends during this difficult time,” one fan wrote on social media.

Another fan wrote that he had followed Alex “for years” and was always amazed by his kindness and openness with his followers.

“I will remember her for her openness and vulnerability in her struggles, her love for animals and her generous heart. She was very special and I wish the best for her friends and family who are grieving this enormous loss.”
