Anushka Sharma's monotrophic diet: An expert weighs in on the benefits of eating the same food every day

Anushka Sharma, known for her disciplined diet and workout regime, frequently follows this approach to maintain her health and fitness.

This diet involves eating only one type of food or a limited variety of similar foods at each meal or throughout the day for an extended period.

Eating the same foods for several days may seem strange to many people, given that most people prefer a variety of dishes. However, some people adopt this eating pattern, known as a monotrophic or mono diet. This diet involves consuming only one type of food or a limited variety of similar foods at each meal or throughout the day for an extended period. Anushka Sharma, who is famous for her disciplined diet and exercise regime, frequently follows this approach to maintain her health and fitness.

In 2023, during an event for her brand Slurrp Farm, Anushka Sharma was asked if she could eat the same food for a long time. The actress reacted by saying, “That’s not a difficult thing for me because sometimes I eat the same thing almost every day. Especially when I’m shooting for a film. I eat the same thing. So, there have been times when I’ve eaten khichdi and baingan bhaja for a month straight for dinner. That’s all I’ve eaten. Or idli sambar for breakfast for 6 months straight.” While the actress’ dedication is commendable, there have been questions about whether this diet is ultimately beneficial and whether her food choices are right. To clear the confusion, gastroenterologist Dr Pal Manickam shared how this can help people stay healthy.

Commenting on Anushka’s diet plan, Dr Pal said in a recent Instagram post, “It is an effective tool for fat loss. It is simple, convenient, and most importantly, you can be consistent with the portion size. Also, it reduces decision fatigue and prevents impulsiveness in eating more.” The expert suggested that if someone is planning in advance to adopt a monotrophic diet, they should make sure to include all the macronutrients in the meal, which includes carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Further pointing out how Anushka has been eating Idli Sambar for a long time, the expert suggests why this particular dish is quite healthy. Dr Pal explained, “The fermentation in the idli and the lentils in the sambar have provided her with good gut bacteria which stimulates the gut-skin axis, so that all the absorption of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants has happened wonderfully.” He concludes by saying that this goes a long way in providing glowing skin.
