A woman's exposé about her breakup with someone she considered a “man child” garnered 35.5 million views, sparking widespread controversy over the qualities of an immature man.
On May 20, Lauren, a lifestyle content creator on TikTok, gave the internet an inside look at the heated conversation she and her ex-boyfriend had when they decidedly broke up. “POV: You're breaking up with a man child,” her on-screen caption read.
In the tight frame, Lauren and her ex-boyfriend can be seen talking nearby, with their noses almost touching. Although it's unclear, the couple appears to be standing in someone's front yard.
Lauren has her arm raised and points her finger away from her, while her former love is placed firmly in front of her.
“Go home,” the TikTok user shouts, while her ex-partner repeats: “I wait for all my things. “I want all my things.”
“I look forward to all my stuff,” Lauren's ex exclaims after the countdown from five begins. In the heat of the moment, the man storms off and heads in the opposite direction. However, Lauren later revealed that he wouldn't leave and tried to break into her house.
Lauren wasn't laughing in the video, but her caption encouraged viewers to laugh despite her anger. But most TikTok users were not amused. In fact, they went into a frenzy when Lauren used the word “man-child” to describe her ex.
More than 39,000 people took to the comments section of his video, arguing whether it was justified to tag the man because of the title.
One person asked why Lauren thought she was being childish by asking for her belongings back. “He just wants all the things he owns,” she noted.
“All he asks for is his stuff, so I don't get it,” a second agreed. Another viewer proclaimed: “Telling a grown man is crazy.”
However, one follower claimed: “The fact that you counted down LIKE A MOTHER and he instantly left SCREAMING MAN BOY!!!”
“From a grown man… you did well, girl. For what it's worth coming from a stranger, I'm proud of you. This took a lot of strength and you stayed very calm,” one fan proclaimed.
Another person said: “That you have to tell for him to listen just shows the way we have to raise these men.”
“THIS VIDEO IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY,” Lauren jokingly responded.
