A baby rhino wears a cast as vets heal a broken leg in a world first | Lifestyle

A baby rhino has been put back on its feet after breaking its leg thanks to vets who performed a world-first operation.

A team of specialist staff carried out a lengthy operation on Amara, a southern white rhino at Knowsley Safari Park in Prescot, including surgery to remove her wrist.

The youngster had to wear a cast for four weeks, but is now back running around his enclosure.

As there were no records or documentation of a rhino with this type of leg injury anywhere in the world, an equine team from the University of Liverpool used their experience in treating horses and applied it to Amara.
