Oracle The engineers mistakenly triggered a five -day software interruption in several community health systems hospitals, which caused the facilities to temporarily return to paper patients records.
Chs told CNBC that the interruption involving Oracle Health, the company's electronic health registration system (EHR), affected “several” hospitals, which led them to activate “inactivity time procedures.” The Becker's Commercial Publication Review Hospital reported that 45 hospitals were beaten.
The interruption began on April 23, after the engineers who carried out maintenance work eliminated by mistake the critical storage connected to a key database, said a CHS spokesman in a statement. The interruption was resolved on Monday and was not related to a cyber attack or other security incident.
CHS is based in Tennessee and includes 72 hospitals in 14 states, according to the medical system website.
“Despite being an important interruption, our hospitals were able to maintain services without material impact,” said the spokesman. “We are proud of our clinical and support teams that worked through the interruption of several days with professionalism and a commitment to provide high quality safe care for patients.”

Oracle did not immediately respond to the request for comments from CNBC.
A EHR is a digital version of the medical history of a patient updated by doctors and nurses. It is a crucial software within the US medical care system, and interruptions can cause serious interruptions in patient care. Oracle acquired EHR Vendor Cerner in 2022 for $ 28.3 billion, becoming the second largest player in the market, behind epic systems.
Now that Oracle systems are back online, CHS said that impacted hospitals are working to “restore complete functionality and return to normal operations and procedures.”
Oracle's Chs error occurs weeks after the company's federal electronic health history experienced an interruption throughout the country. Oracle has fought with a deployment of spiny EHR and years with the Department of Veterans Affairs, tarnished by patient safety concerns. The agency launched a strategic review of Cerner in 2021, before Oracle's acquisition, and the software deployment was temporarily arrested in 2023.
