Patients in the health centers of Nyu Langone will soon be able to register in search of appointments using Amazon Palm-Scanning Technology, the company announced Monday.

The service without contact, called Amazon One, can identify patients “safely and quickly,” according to a statement. Nyu Langone said technology will help it accelerate the signatories, relieve administrative tension in staff and reduce errors and waiting times.

For a health system that manages more than 10 million visits to patients every year, every minute counts. With Amazon One, Nyu Langone anticipates that he can reduce the time that patients spend in their front desks of approximately two to three minutes less than a minute, said Andrew Rubin, senior vice president of clinical matters of Nyu Langone, to CNBC.

“That is a positive experience so that the patient can enter faster, and requires less work on our part to have to authenticate who the patient is,” Rubin said.

Amazon will not store or access the health data or personal information of patients beyond their palm impressions, said Nyu Langone. Participation is voluntary and patients may choose not to participate at any time.
