The Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., plans to cut 10,000 full -time employees in different departments, while working to remodel federal health agencies of the Nation, confirmed an HHS spokesman on Thursday.
These employment cuts are added to about 10,000 employees who chose to leave the HHS since President Donald Trump assumed the position, through voluntary separation offers. The Wall Street Journal previously reported the cuts.
HHS is an agency of $ 1.7 billion that supervises vaccines and other medications, scientific research, public health infrastructure, pandemic preparation and food and tobacco products. The department also manages medical care for the government for millions of Americans, including the elderly, people with disabilities and low -income patients who depend on Medicare, Medicaid and the markets of the affordable care law.
If the department completely implements employment cuts, you will have thrown around a quarter of federal health workers, including voluntary outputs, the Journal reported. That would reduce the workforce of the department to 62,000 employees.
The HHS will also drop five of its 10 regional offices, but essential health services will not be affected, according to the Journal.

He had said that he would eliminate “complete departments” in the FDA, saying that workers who intervene in the path of approval of several controversial or doubtful treatments should prepare to “pack their bags.”
Kennedy, an outstanding skeptic of the vaccine, has already made early movements that could affect the immunization policy and further reduce absorption in the US. UU. At a time when child vaccination rates are falling.
He said he will review the children's vaccination program and, according to reports, he is preparing to eliminate and replace the members of the external committees that advise the Government on vaccines approval and other key public health decisions, among other efforts.
His so -called Make America Healy Again platform also undertakes to end the epidemic of chronic diseases in children and adults. Kennedy has expressed about making nutritious foods, instead of drugs, fundamental to that goal.
