Stellantis'RAM Brand is canceling the plans to develop a full -size RAM 1500 -size truck, citing the deceleration of the demand for electric vehicles.
“As the demand for full -size battery trucks slows down in North America, Stellantis reassess its product strategy and will discontinue the development of a full -size BEV truck,” said a company spokesman on Friday in a statement, using the industry acronym for battery electric vehicles.
Stellantis had already delayed the plans twice for the truck, which originally expected to go on sale at the end of 2024.
Ram said Friday that he would still plan to launch an extended rank electric truck, which is equipped with an electric generator and a gas engine. This truck is expected to come out next year.
The company said it would change the name of that extended rank truck of “Ramcharger” to “RAM 1500 Rev”.
The change occurs when the CEO of RAM, Tim Kuniskis, who did not withdraw from the car manufacturer at the end of last year, launched an aggressive change for the conflict brand.
The new CEO of Stellantis, Antonio Filosa, has been marking some of the initiatives of former CEO Carlos Tavares and promised at the end of July to make “the difficult decisions necessary to restore profitable growth and significantly improve the results.”
The automotive industry in general has been dealing with the adoption of slower electric vehicles than expected. The Trump administration has also been looking to relax many of the initiatives of former President Joe Biden to move away the automotive industry of internal combustion engines that achieves gas and has canceled tax credits to buy EV.
