Oatly and Carvel ice cream partnership boosts stock

oatmeal and Carvel said Monday they will partner to add oat milk-based products to the chain's ice cream shops nationwide.

The deal is a boon for Oatly, which has struggled to regain the enthusiasm investors had for the plant-based milk company when it made its stock market debut in 2021. Its shares are up about 7% in trading. of Monday.

Oatly, a Swedish company with a market capitalization of about $657 million, saw its shares trade around $1.12 per share on Monday. The company's financial performance has repeatedly disappointed Wall Street since its initial public offering, erasing the value of its shares from the day it opened trading at $22.12 per share in 2021.

Carvel, a chain known for its soft serve, will add five new plant-based desserts to its menu as part of the partnership. Oatly flavors will be available in nearly 300 Carvel stores in 18 states.

Oatly products will include strawberry soft serve and scoop-shaped cookies and chocolate peanut butter and cream flavors, as well as cakes.

Oatly said the partnership will help the ice cream chain serve people with dairy allergies or dietary restrictions. In recent years, more consumers have embraced plant-based milk, and oat milk has begun to represent a larger share of that segment.

Jim Salerno, Carvel's chief brand officer, added in a statement that “Oatly is the latest way we are moving forward to offer our customers a new offering that we know there is a lot of excitement behind.”
