U.Today: Samson Mow, vocal Bitcoiner and CEO of JAN3, took to his X account to once again recommend Wikipedia to purchase the world's largest cryptocurrency BTC.
Mow posted a screenshot of a donation request sent by Wikipedia to many of its users asking them to donate $2.75.
Mow tweeted that while they send him an annual donation reminder, he sent them his “annual reminder to shop.” In the tweet, he tagged Wikipedia's X accounts and its founder Jimmy Wales.
Mow cited his own tweet posted about a year ago, in early December 2023. In that post, Mow stated that if Wikipedia had purchased Bitcoin several years ago, following Mow's recommendation, “they wouldn't have to ask for donations every year in perpetuity.”
In December last year, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales criticized Bitcoin in his tweet, saying that one cannot forget the password to their bank account and therefore cannot lose all their money, unlike What can happen with a Bitcoin wallet. “Because banks work and bitcoin doesn't,” he tweeted. That comment sparked a reaction from many members and influencers in the crypto community. Among them was CEO Paolo Ardoino, who suggested that Wikipedia would one day be replaced by a decentralized alternative.
Earlier that year, Wikipedia stopped accepting donations in Bitcoin that it had been gratefully accepting for many years prior.
