Elon Musk's X Removes Hashmoji From Bitcoin And The Community Is Left With Their Mouths Open By U.Today

U.Today – The community is excited about X and wondering what has made Elon Musk's X platform remove the Bitcoin hashmoji after its absence was noticed. Its removal was confirmed by a member of the X team.

X no longer displays the Bitcoin hashmoji

X user “DogeDesigner” (@cb_doge), who is a member of the DOGE team and an X insider, shared that the Bitcoin hashmoji no longer works on X. Only the Bitcoin hashtag remains.

He did not give any explanation for this unexpected decision, which left the crypto community on X baffled. Heated debates have arisen over what prompted Elon Musk to order the removal of the hashmoji from the world’s flagship cryptocurrency, which was added by Twitter co-founder and its former Bitcoiner CEO Jack Dorsey.

Several Bitcoin influencers have commented on the deletion, including JAN3 boss Samson Mow, an early Bitcoin adopter, BTC millionaire Jeremy Davinci, and trader @TheMoonCarl.

However, it appears that not only Bitcoin but also the hashmojis of all other X cryptocurrencies have been removed.

Tesla (NASDAQ:) still holds Bitcoin

As U.Today reported in April this year, Elon Musk's electric car producer Tesla still holds a large stash of Bitcoin: there are $184 million worth of BTC on the company's balance sheet, according to Tesla's Q1 2024 earnings report.

In February 2021, the company announced the purchase of $1.5 billion worth of bitcoins. After that, Musk announced that Tesla started accepting payments in bitcoins for the electric cars it produces. This led the world's largest cryptocurrency to an all-time high price above the $60,000 level in April.

However, that same month, Musk suddenly announced that Tesla stopped accepting Bitcoin due to environmental concerns about proof-of-work-based BTC mining.

Tesla continued to hold Bitcoin on its balance sheet, but then began gradually selling off its BTC stash. The aforementioned $184 million worth of Bitcoin is all that remains of it for now.

Musk says no X coin will be launched

Recently, X has been preparing to launch in-house payments and has been obtaining the necessary licenses in several US states.

While one might think that Elon Musk might be clearing some space and removing hashmojis from Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, he has made it clear several times that none of his companies, including X, will be launching their own cryptocurrency.
