U.Today: Almost six months after the debut of Core 27.0, the BTC development team released the latest update to the protocol. Dubbed Bitcoin Core 28.0, this new iteration comes with a couple of improvements and bug fixes for the Bitcoin mainnet.
Bitcoin development team seeks greater security and privacy
This week, the Bitcoin development team released notes highlighting a series of updates designed to improve the functionality and security of the program. In addition to more security and other bug fixes, Bitcoin Core 28.0 offers improved privacy features for users.
This comes just weeks after developers notified the public about the emergence of a high-risk vulnerability and software bug. These loopholes targeted one in six Bitcoin nodes, disrupting their operations. Precisely, these vulnerabilities made the nodes very susceptible to DoS attacks by malicious actors. All the attacker had to do was exhaust the nodes with low difficulty head chains.
Once these nodes were able to download long strings that exceed their bandwidth, a potential failure occurred. With Bitcoin Core 28.0 and its additional security improvement, this is no longer a challenge. To a large extent, this latest development supports reproducible builds, allowing experienced users to build identical binaries on top of those distributed on the official BTC Core website.
In the long term, it promotes trust and transparency within the BTC community.
Bitcoin price experiences some rebound
The BTC market outlook took a new turn on September 18, just after the Federal Reserve announced a 50 basis point rate cut. The flagship cryptocurrency surpassed $60,000 after falling below this level for many days. A few days later, the currency plummeted and began trading sideways.
Recently, Bitcoin reached $62,000 but has refused to register any further increase even with the release of US jobs data. The coin is currently trading at $62,121.25, up 1.65% in 24 hours according to CoinMarketCap data.
While not immediate, the Bitcoin Core upgrade could impact overall performance when investors price this appropriately.
